I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

I have loved all of Ms Andersen's previous books in this line. The idea of the rewritten Tudor history! I was so excited to learn that the initial series would be continued. Unfortunately this book just didn't live up to what I expected it to.

My main problem was that there were to many main characters, who each had their own story-line. Besides the three main characters carried over from the last series, we also had all 5 of their children carried in from the last book as new main characters, and then we have the addition of at least 2 more. There were just two many stories, that I'm sure would have eventually come together, but as of the midway point when I stopped reading, they hadn't.

I really do enjoy Ms Andersen's writing style and her historical imagination. I also hope that she will continue to write books in the historical fiction genre, I would be excited to read them. But I also wish that she had ended the Tudor series as she originally intended, as a trilogy.
