Book Review of Shutter Island

Shutter Island
reviewed on

Dennis Lehane is a marvelous writer, and he has written a fascinating thriller, one that begs the reader to continue till the final page. In 1954, a convicted murderer who is lodged in a hospital for the criminally insane, escapes. Two US Marshalls are sent to "Shutter Island" to search and apprehend the patient who must be hidden on the grounds. The story includes plot twists, intriguing characters and Victorian architecture, and a storm reminiscent of "Key Largo." The story, to paraphrase Winston Churchill, "...is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma...." I recommend this book to readers who love really well-crafted books regardless of genre.
