This is well written, it's well thought out and compelling reading. The New York Daily News said "Superbly suspenseful... Instilling dread may be cruel work, but Perry is the man for the job." The story line is simple .. when the cousin of an LA underworld figure is found dead in his home in Portland, Oregon, homicide detective Catherine Hobbes is assigned the case. But the investigtion becomes complicated when that underworld figure hires his own private detective Joe Pitt to solve the murder. As Joe and Catherine form an uneasy alliance, the murder count rises. Following the evidence, Catherine finds herself in a deadly contest with a cunning female adversary capable of changing her appearance and identity at will. Catheirne must use everything she knows, as a detective and a woman, to stop a murderer who kills on impulse and with ease, and who becomes more efficient and elusive with each crime.
