An outstanding book I wish I had read years ago. The description really does a good job of covering the material. The book is a compilation of the author's essays. Considering the author doesn't always say nice things about the Civil War personages he is discussing, it is interesting to note he received THREE Jefferson Davis Awards as well as many others during his career. Obviously, he had the facts behind him.

The only other thing I can add is that it is well written, easy to read and often humorous. There were several places where I laughed out loud. For example, he compares three Confederate generals to the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion (from The Wizard of Oz). Read the book to discover which general he says should have sung "If I only had a brain."
