If you have ever seen the movie "55 Days at Peking," then you will enjoy this book. It is only 200 pages long and an easy read, but it will totally change the way you look at the dramatic events that occurred in China in 1900 and eventually lead to the Russo-Japanese war four years later.

An expert analysis of the siege from before the actual attacks on the legations, to the resulting political effects afterwards, the book also lays to rest many of the myths associated with the siege and depicted in the movie.

The telling of the story interweaving the actions and perspectives from the ambassadors and senior military officers to the lowest European and Chinese civilians and privates adds spice and makes this an enjoyable read.
