Dov Zallinski has found is way to Jerusalem, where he is sure he will uncover news of his missing family. Now that he's here, though, Dov doesn't know how he will survive on his own, especially with political tensions at an all time high. The unlikely friendship of an Arab Christian seems to offer Dov a refuge-until it becomes clear Farouk Bin-Jazzi has troubles of his own. Men from every corner of Jerusalem will do anything to get their hands on a collection of ancient scrolls in the old man's cave. Suddenly it's up to Dov to save the scrolls-and Bin-Jazzi-from terrible harm.

Emily Parkinson can't seem to forget stubborn Dov Zallinski and his search for his family. Without really knowing why, she secretly takes up the search too. But Emily's efforts at helping her friend are nearly ended by her father's announcement that their family will soon be leaving to Palestine for the safety of England. Then and unexpected meeting finds Emily once again face-to-face with Dov...and part of his dangerous mission.
