After reading the first in the series and signing up for this one (the second in the series) on the Wish List, I saw that it was going to be a looooooong wait, so I went out and bought it new. Now I'll pass it on to another Sookie fan.

I'm ambivalent about this series. The first was a mystery with fantasy elements. This is more a fantasy with mystery elements. (How much actual mystery can you have with the main character able to read minds?) Well, I can stand that. I read fantasy and science fiction avidly for a long time.

I think I will continue reading the series, but may take a break from it for a while. There are some heavy things happening in these books, and I can only take so much at a time. (Oh, I definitely will read the next one. Harris dropped such an interesting little tidbit of info in the last few pages of this one that I have to read more to see how this newly discovered info affects everyone's lives.)

I like Sookie and Bill, her vampire boyfriend, but the dark, heavy events and sometimes unpleasant sexual content make me reluctant to dip into these books too frequently. See? I'm ambivalent.
