Richard, the new Lord Ledbury, formerly Major Cathcart, is still recovering from battle injuries when he meets Lady Jayne Chilcott, known as Chilblain Jayne because no man has yet been able to get near her, except one Lieutenant Kendell, who has been after her body but mostly her money - or the money he thinks she has.

Lady Jayne's father has no use for her and has told her to go to London for the season with Lady Penrose, a distant relative, and hook a husband to support her or else.

Richard plucks Jayne out of several iffy situations, but she takes his anger at the idea that she might be harmed the wrong way. He in turn gets the wrong idea about the state of her feelings.

Will these miscommunicating potential lovers sort things out and realize they were made for each other? This is a Harlequin, so of course they will, but there is quite a bit of humor in the journey. I rate it as pretty good.
