Arriving on a train in Fort Worth, Amelia Carson is excited to meet Dallas Leigh, the Texan she has promised to marry. But the man at the train station was Houston, Dallas's brother, sent to escort her on a three-week trek to the ranch where Dallas waited. Houston Leigh fell for Amelia from the moment he met her. But he was scarred inside and out from injuries suffered on the civil war battlefield at the age of fourteen. He knows he is little competition for his handsome older brother and is determined to deliver Ameia to his brother as promised.
This is one of Lorraine Heath's best. Houston and Amelia are two lonely people who are perfect for each other. They fall in love, but Amelia isn't willing to break her promise to marry Dallas who paid for her to travel to Texas. Their three-week trek to the Leigh Ranch takes a lot more time than either of them thought it would. There was a lot happening during their travel, including a stampede which wrecks all of Amelia's belongings.
I read this book shortly after it was published in 2010 and loved it. This time around I listened to the audiobook narrated by Eva Kaminsky who does an awesome job with the characters. I loved the story. It's just as good as the first time around. My rating: 5 Stars.
