D.I. Kim Stone and her team are pulled in multiple directions when they are working two different cases. Kim and Bryant are investigating the murder of a young prostitute. They are just probing the victim's past when a second body turns up. Both women were tied to Kai Lord, a pimp with a stable of girls working for him.

At the same time, Dawson and Stacey are trying to find the mother of a baby that was abandoned on the doorstep of the police station. The only clue to the identity of the child is the shawl that was wrapped around him for warmth.

This book hit all of the right notes for me. Unlike the last book where the team had a hard time breaking apart to work on multiple cases, this time the investigations went smoothly. Kim requested help for her team and was given the temporary help of Det. Sgt. Austin Penn, on loan from the West Mercia Police Department. He was a good addition to the case. There were multiple murder suspects in the murder case and a couple of red herrings that kept me guessing. I was actually shocked by the identity of the killer. This was an excellent addition to the series. My rating: 5 Stars.
