Keith Laumer is the author of the sometimes slapstick RETIEF series about the interstellar diplomat who tries to get things accomplished in spite of his superiors. Here Laumer shows a more serious side. And his facts are horribly accurate--the scenarios he depicts all too plausible!

From back cover: The earth has gone mad . . .
Always, beneath the calm surface of our planet, colossal forces are building up, and from time to time must find release. Minor geological events such as the San Francisco earthquake, and the eruptions of Krakatoa and Mt. St. Helens are the results. Minor events? Yes, minor. What if these forces were not satisfied by a single eruption or shifting of the Earth's mantle? What if they didn't stop?
It could happen!
