One of the earliest in the Dr. Kay Scarpetta series - a good beginning that introduces characters who become fully rounded in Cornwell's later books. This book involves the murders of four young couples. In the days before high technology CSI type of forensics, Scarpetta solves this mystery with the aide of a microscope.
