"Not all memories weigh the same." Onyi Nwabineli - Someday, Maybe

Someday, Maybe is a novel centered around grief and love. Deep, raw, all-consuming sorrow. And love between partners, among family members, and with friends. It's not for every reader. Content warning: suicide.

In her debut novel, Onyi Nwabineli shares the story of Eve and Quentin. On the first page, it's revealed that their seemingly perfect marriage is shattered when Eve finds Q dead by suicide on New Year's Eve. Readers follow Eve on the first days, weeks, and months of her grief journey.

Asked to write this story by a friend who experienced a similar loss, Ms. Nwabineli doesn't hold back on writing about the pain of grief but weaves in moments of witty humor as a relief valve from the intense emotions. Although Eve has a very close family and a supportive best friend, she finds her way forward with the help of some very unlikely people.
Someday, Maybe is ultimately a story of hope and moving on with life when you once thought a future wasn't possible.

I highly recommend reading this via audiobook with exceptional narration by Adjoa Andoh. She masterfully reads the occasional Igbo conversations of Eve's Nigerian family members and also conveys the big emotions of this well-written story.
