Just mildly interesting. His premise is flawed, because he says he's trying to take the pulse of America and figure out what makes it hang together, yet he only stays in campgrounds on his trip and talks mainly to poor, rural and disenfranchised people. There's nothing in his book about affluent Americans or city dwellers. So the narrative is unbalanced and somewhat random.
