I am undecided on this book. It isn't her Highlander series, and I didn't expect it to be. I have read other sci-fi/fantasy and up against them, it fall flat... (Early (before she got really bizarre) Laurell K Hamilton's "Anita Blake," and Michelle Sagara's "Choronicles of Elantra" of being most prominent but it was better than Lori Handeland's "Phoenix Chronicles" ).) I think I just kept waiting for the story to find resolution and it didn't really. I am glad that Mac found her strength and confidence at the end, b/c personally, I don't like weak women leads in books.
That said, I have the next two and will read them. Usually the first in a series is the least interesting to me b/c there is so much groundwork to lay, and I DO believe that Ms. Moning is a talented storyteller, so I have hopes for the next one.
Update: I am halfway thru book 3 and I am HOOKED. A bit of advice: If you like book 1 at all, get the remaining books BEFORE you read them. You will be happy that you did.
