As a sixth grade teacher, I highly recommend this book. I teach a WWII research project, and I work closely with our librarian to introduce all aspects of the war to the students. There are so many other sides of the war than just the American perspective, and this book introduces young readers to the early days of the war when women and children were evacuated from London during the London Blitz in what was called Operation Pied Piper. The characters' stories incorporate the hardships of the war felt by almost everyone. It is also a heartwarming story about three orphan siblings who are determined to stick together through thick and thin after the death of their grandmother. If you, your students, or your child loved The War That Saved My Life and The War I Finally Won by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, then they will love this book too.
