This reads as an honest tale of overwhelming situations of violence and harsh realities through the eyes of budding adults. The characters are old enough to be relate-able to grown-up readers yet, while reading, their actions remind you they are young. Very young. They are six western Christian teenagers of varying levels of naivete on a well intentioned summer mission trip. The time for their trip was badly timed and they find themselves in a Muslim vs. Christian killing zone. Adventure is gripping but so is the reality check that their faith in God goes through. I appreciate the lack of a neatly tied up conclusion to the unsettling sense of being on the cusp of loss of personal faith. I would suggest this to book any one, it is flat out good reading.
