This collection of short stories fills gaps readers like me may have missed in earlier reads of the Mary Russell books. I totally enjoy short stories since when one is finished I feel like I am really making progress. There are several stories that I loved in this collection. The first, Merry Christmas, dips into Mary's childhood and her fascination with her Uncle Abe, an eccentric and delightful character whose antics were cherished by Mary. And, the sequence where he won the local bar from a man who relished fleecing other players was hilarious. He won by bluffing everyone who could have won had they stayed in the game. My War Journal is about Mary's interest with spies and the war itself. Well done. I think, however, Mary Russell's Wedding, is my favorite of all. The antics Mary and Holmes go through to tie the knot is hilarious. My recommendation? If you like short stories, Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell, try this collection. 4 heart warming and funny stars.
