#7 in the Lady Susanna Appleton historical series set in Elizabethan England. In this book, Lady Susanna and several of her entourage are ensconced at Walter Pendennis' manor in Cornwall with several Cambridge and Oxford scholars trying to prove that England has a better claim to the New World than Spain because of expeditions there earlier than Columbus'. Academic jealousies abound as the scholars pore over texts in several different languages and argue varying theories. That at least one of them would end up dead was a foregone conclusion. I enjoyed this entry in the series quite a lot.
