I loved this travel book! During our recent trip to Maui, we brought two travel books along and only used this one. The layout is user-friendly. It divided the island into sections, so we weren't skimming over information not relevant to us. With color illustrations and historical vignettes throughout the book, it is entertaining and practical.
The sections provide a driving "tour" which uses mile markers to point out areas of interest, good snorkel spots, must-see scenic stops. It is very useful when unfamiliar with the area (as we were). A word of caution though: keeping your eyes in the book too much will cause you to miss out on some great scenery.
We didn't use the hotel directory, since we already had ours picked out. I can say that the food section is helpful in describing the type of food offered, prices, and directions. The reviews are not representative of all the restaurants, but I was surprised of the diversity of places reviewed...it went from delis to fine dining. For the most part we were in agreement with the reviews, except Dollie's in Kahana (West Maui) which we liked more than the reviewer. Partly because of the chicken wrap, salsa, affordable drinks, and overall prices!
I highly recommend traveling with this book. Just don't be surprised when you run into many other tourists with the same book in hand.
