Totally blown away by this one. Zsadist in the first two books is one scary SOB, but there are glimpses of a humanity that he hides away well. Learning about all that he went through and what was done to him not only physically but psychologically and emotionally was heart wrenching, but was a necessary evil to understand why he is the way he is, and to see him progress as the story unfolds is awsome. I really liked Bella, from the first moment she met him, she saw him, not the scars or the attitude, but him. Being captured by the lessers and tortured gave her a connection with Z and she turned to him so she could heal.
The interaction with all the Brothers and their shellans always makes the books for me ~ their banter back and forth with each other is highly enjoyable. and my heart did ache for Phury, Z's twin. Totally enjoying learning more and more about John Mathews and can't wait to get to his book. J.R. Ward also threw in a curve ball in this book, and although I was totally surprised and heartbroken, I am looking forward to seeing how she works it out for this character ~ who has been one of my favs from book 1.
