So there's a library like the library of Alexandria except for magic. Every decade they recruit 6 young adults who are magicians to compete for membership, with only 5 making it.
So the 6 characters they recruit have powers that control the elements (fire, earth, plants) or psychic abilities (mind control, telepathy) and one guy whose power is to see reality (don't worry, he's very useful during an attack the first night they are there).
So if it sounds like the Magicians or the X-Men it's because that's pretty much it. None of the 6 recruitments are likeable. There's only four other characters in the book so when they're attacked later on it's not to difficult to figure out who's behind it.
