In an effort to read more classical literature, I came across this book. Before reading this, all I knew about Edgar Rice Burroughs was that he wrote the Tarzan books (upon which the Tarzan movies were made). The gist of the story is that a German u-boat (during World War I) sinks a British ship and later takes the few survivors on board. This submarine accidentally takes the survivors to an unknown land where they find dinosaurs and neanderthals.

At 65+ years, I have to admit that this is my first adventure-fantasy book. The shocking thing (to me) is that it is highly readable and is wildly interesting. Who knew? It was originally published in three parts in 1918. This is the first part of the Caspak trilogy. Since it is the first of the trilogy, the story ends with a cliffhanger.
