The 34th FIST is sent to a planet, inhabited by religious extremists of many religious sects, which is under assault by the alien Skinks. Makes for a 'fun' deployment as the Marines struggle to assist a planetary army more concerned with adhering to its religious tenets than surviving.
A rousing tale, but as Mike S. already mentioned in his review, this particular story of the 34th FIST is continued in the following books.
