2 1/2 stars is the most I can give this attempt, although it was better than the "sequel" to the Null-A books (written by a different author), which I could not even finish (rare for me). I loved Slan in my teens but the sequel does at least as good a job of capturing the deficiencies of the original (which I re-read, since its in the same volume) as in capturing its strengths. It is a faithful stylistic recreation, and does wrap up the story, but Anderson wrote better books in the "Dune" series.
