First let me be honest. I didn't finish this book. I only got under 100 pages in. It's very very rare for me to not finish a book, in fact, I don't think I've ever stopped in the middle of one before.
The writing is excellent. I enjoy the pace and the style of her writing. But apparently my skin is too thin for this. I have experienced darkness in life and I do not seek it out in books.
Had i read page 1 when I got this book, I probably wouldn't have bought it. (I bought it based off the blurb on the back). Had I read the last page of the book, I most certainly would not have bought it. It was accidentally skimming the last page that made me set this book down.
It is told in a cold, calloused way and based on truth (Daniel Carleton Gajdusek).
Many of the reviews I have since read for this book give it 5 stars and talk about how much it broke them. So i suppose if you are looking to be devastated by a book (that does not have an upside what so ever), this book is for you.
Fair warning.
