Mickey Haller is a defense attorney and to say that he's not liked by the cops and prosecuting attorneys is putting it mildly. When you think about it, though, it makes sense, because a defense attorney's job is to either get the criminal off free, or to get him the easiest sentence possible. Not a very righteous or noble job, but it's the way our justice system works. Mickey gets most of his work from his tacky advertisements (yellow pages, park benches, etc.) and he does pretty good for himself, but when he gets a call to represent a Beverly Hills rich boy, he sees dollar signs. The big question is whether or not his new client is guilty. Haller has learned not to ask or care. The book takes us through his investigation of the crime, the parties involved, as well as their backgrounds, in his preparation for defending his client. There are several twists that I didn't see coming, especially at the end, and it was a surprise and made me upset that the book was ending, as I wanted it to go on and on! I immediately started searching for my next Michael Connelly and Mickey Haller book. I'm hooked!
