This is the story of Bella, a high school girl who falls in love with Edward, a vampire. I read this book on my husband's recommendation - he saw a review of it that called this series the next thing to read for Harry Potter fans. I found it more similar Buffy the Vampire Slayer (without the slaying) than HP, but, for the most part, enjoyed it. However, it was certainly melodramatic at times (I guess that can be expected, since it is told in the voice of a 17-year-old girl), and I'm ambivalent about how much I like Bella as a heroine (especially because I read the excerpt of the next book included with this one), but will continue to read the series and see how the next book develops.
