Randy Wayne White takes a stab at expanding his horizon from the Doc Ford novels, by rolling out supporting character Hannah Smith into her own book / series.

I enjoyed the book didn't LOVE it, but LIKEd it well enough. Pacing was decent, maybe a bit slow but not horribly so. I admit that I liked Hannah well enough, as well as the supporting cast although a couple of them were familiar to me from White's earlier writings. (BTW, Randy, this annoying little habit of referring to characters by descriptions and titles in order to build suspense isn't cute I find it kind of annoying. Especially when most of the time, we know who you're referring to, so the "reveal" - isn't. In this case, "the Biologist" ... yes, Randy, ALL of us know who you mean, unless this is the first Randy Wayne White book someone reads, of course.)

I found it like popcorn I enjoyed it, but it wasn't really filling and it didn't leave a long-term impression. That's not a bad thing popcorn is popular for a reason!

RATING: 3 1/2 stars, rounded down to 3 stars.
