Nora Roberts begins a trilogy about disparate brothers bound by ties of loyalty. On his deathbed, widowed Joseph Quinn exacts a promise from his three grown sons to care for the youngest, for whom he has recently begun adoption proceedings. Reader David Stuart carries us deftly through the lives of all the Quinns and their determined social worker. Stuart clearly conveys the character and lifestyle differences among the brothers. The few peripheral personalities in the story appear in exaggerated tones of Little Italy, Brooklyn and the Deep South.
