Although this book was full of lots of action and doors opening and some doors closing I was becoming irritated with Luna's strident attitude with her status as an Intoli, a werewolf without a pack. She begins to accept and understand Detective David Byrnes, a man she hated but she will not use that same technique with Dmitri, the man she loves.
Although she is no longer in homicide she is helping David on a case where the leaders of the were packs are being murdered. She is kidnapped drugged and left naked deep in a forest. An entity she can't see arises out of mist and water. It chases her for miles and gets a taste of her blood. She hides, turns into her wolf and runs many more miles until she is able to escape. She learns this is a Wendigo a creature that feeds on blood and hearts of it's victims. They also despise werewolves.
