Richard Welles, youngest son in the Baltimore investment banking family, the firm of Ambrose and Welles, is stuck in the middle of a family and "the firm" feud, between his father and older brother, with duplicitous employees shuffling assets, unbeknownst to the principals. After he and his wife rescue the daughter of real estate baron, Harry Wollenschaft, from a near fatal plane crash in Cheseapeake Bay, he is grateful for the diversion of helping Harry with his investments, in a minor matter which though simple turns out potentially deadly. Dealing with the "business" becomes a run for answers and maybe his life, between Maryland and the Las Vegas investments in Nevada in this taut thriller.
