This is a surprisingly good novel about a girl who has to redefine herself only to find that she had never really known who she was. There is romance in it but mostly it's about Jennifer/Doris rediscovery through the kindness of the town's quirky inhabitants.
What I love about this book is that Jennifer is a mistress and she isn't apolegetic about it. Yes, she has fake boobs, fake lips, fake hair, fake tan, etc... Often in romance novels in an effort to make a character likeable, a "mistress" is usually something else. I thought it was rather brave of Carr to make Jennifer someone that most women who hate.
Quick, easy, entertaining read.
