As a storyteller myself, I had a special appreciation for this book, which is about a Colorado Rocky Mountain gold camp, during the Great Depression. Hennie, the main character, has lived in the camp for 60 years, and knows all about the inhabitants present and past, and is adept at telling their stories. This book is especially about the hardships faced by women in that time and place, and how they gave help and support to each other and their children, often through a quilt-making club - so the book will appeal to quilt-makers as well, as readers interested in women's history.
