Paradise has decided to put in her application to be a trainee at the Brotherhood's Training Center Program. She finds the life of a Glymera female very restrictive and wants to do other things. She and many other young vampires show up for the initial training. Finding the training very difficult, the huge number is quickly cut down to seven vampires who pass the tests...one of them is Paradise. Another is Craeg, a civilian who is everything Paradise wants in a male. As Paradise and Craeg continue their training, they find an undeniable attraction. Paradise knows her father would never approve of a commoner for his aristocratic daughter, but the attraction proves too hard to resist.

This is the first book in the spinoff to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. This series is called the Black Dagger Legacy and is about the Brotherhood opening its doors to trainees. The stories are about the young trainees in the program. I couldn't put this book down. Paradise is a very strong female who knows exactly what she wants. Craeg is a civilian whose family was killed in the attacks by the Lessers. He wants to prove himself and is planning on getting revenge for his parent's murders. I loved both characters and was happy with their story.

One thing I like about Ward's writing is her multiple story threads. This book also takes a look at Butch & Marissa's relationship. Marissa has found a severely wounded female at the door of Safe Place. With no one to turn to at the moment, she must ask her brother for help. This story, along with Paradise's story, shows how the females are treated by the Glymera. Marissa and Butch both have a few things to straighten out before they can be truly happy.

I'm looking forward to more books in this series. I think this book would have fit into the original series very well, but many readers may have been disappointed to have yet more new characters to read about. This way they can decide if they want to jump into these books. I believe any fan of the BDB series will love this one. My rating: 5 Stars.
