Rocky Point Promise by Barbara McMahon
Book 3 in the Rocky Point Series
Sheriff Tate Johnson couldn't wait to leave the sleepy town of Rocky Point, Maine when he hit eighteen. After college, marriage and working as a cop in Boston he didn't think he'd return. Then his wife Mandy died and his dad had a stroke, so he returned home. He was fine in his single state and had no plans of remarriage, until he saved a boy from drowning and met the new nurse.

Faith Steward enjoyed her new quiet life as a nurse in the clinic compared to her busy life she left behind in Portland. And everyone hovering over her. She was engaged to be married but when her life suddenly hit a bump in the road...her fiance hit the road as well. Besides her boss in Rocky Point, nobody knew her past and she wanted to keep it that way. Her quiet life changed the day Tate was brought in with a bloody head and again later when she takes in a mother dog with four newborn puppies. Can Faith begin to hope for things she gave up when she left Portland?

As every good book we have a villain that we can dislike, cute critters that make you want to find one to cuddle, situations that make you laugh and some that make you cry. The books in this series are stand alone but reading the first two help put together who everyone is, I personally enjoy revisiting the people in places in previous books.
