I've read all three books in this series about The Civil War, specifically the Battle of Franklin, and it's toll on the people of Cumberland, Mississippi. There are passages in this book that I've reread multiple times, because they're so true and lovely. As in the previous two books, the stories are heartbreaking, but feel more "real" for me than about any other books I've read about that time period. My only negative feedback was his over use of the word "myriad", which in the end did not detract from the power these books held for me.
