Of all the m/m stories I've read, this particular story does the best job of capturing the conflicted emotions of a man who thought he was straight, but isn't. The two men don't have instant love. They don't jump into a relationship straight away. They take their time entering into the relationship. Neither one wants to scare the other one away. However, it's also the downfall of the story. The interior monologue and musings are endless. The story could have moved along at a faster clip. So much of it was "does he like me?" "am I imagining things?" After a while, you want to slap the characters in the face.
I had issues with the author's style of writing. There's something unrealistic about the dialog. I work with 40-something year old men in a male dominated industry. This is not how men speak these days. Jack, the handyman, talks like a woman would talk. I felt like Jack, the handyman, wasn't forty-four, but more like sixty four! This is one of the major issues I have with a female author writing a male/male romance. They don't capture the male tone of voice well and that's so crucial in a m/m relationship especially one such as this book where the emotional buildup takes most of the story
