This was a wonderful story. The author obviously did a lot of research about old time circuses. This is the story of Jacob, now a 90 or 93 year old man, remembering his days as a circus veterinarian. This particular circus is a traveling circus (train) during the prohibiton times of the 1930's. There are many parts of the book that are rather depressing, such as people being out of work and the mistreatment of circus animals and workers; think being thrown from a moving train just because the circus owner didn't want to pay you. But alas, everything turns out "Rosie" in the end. I would highly recommend this book.
