Another successful entry in Berry's Cotton Malone series, this book finds Malone on the trail of a secretive group of international billionaires who are in search of Napoleon's secret cache of plunder, supposedly one of the world's greatest treasures. Berry uses this novel to introduce us to a new and likely continuing character, a younger version of Malone when he first started out as a US government agent. While not quite as good as some of his previous novels, part of that may have to do with the more recent historical topic. There was considerably less history involved in this one than in the past. I don't know if that's a trend or if that was just a function of the storytelling. The cast of characters was a bit larger than usual so that may have left less time for historical exposition. Berry still tells a good story and generally keeps the action moving along well enough to keep you engaged.
