Mary Wine has a knack for writing great historical erotica with good period detail, evil villains who deserve their comeuppance, and likable lead characters; Prisoner of Desire filled that bill admirably.

A story of a woman forced to survive in a time where women had no rights lands herself in a situation where she finally gets to have a choice in her life, from how she dresses to how she acts to whom she marries. I loved Lorena and her thought processes and it was enjoyable to read a book where you actually like the heroine. And of course it wouldn't be a delicious Mary Wine book without a wonderful hero. Warren is what I would call, an alpha with heart. While he abducts Lorena to secure his brothers's freedom and foil an enemy, he soon finds himself falling under the spell of his captive and wanting to give her the freedom of choice she so desperately needs. The sexual tension between the two was stomach clenching and you could feel the pull the two had for each other.

The storyline was entertaining, the side characters interesting and overall it was a great way to spend an evening. The book does hint at sequels and Mary Wine herself has hinted at a prequel so hopefully the fun has just begun!
