First Comes Marriage made me sad. Not happy sad. Just sad. The heroine is a woman who is not beautiful or pretty. She's just plain and everyone knows it and it is the subject of much discussion. She's beautiful on the inside they say. The hero talks about her plain-ness, her lack of feminine attributes, her skinny little unfeminine body and unremarkable face for over half the book. And even when he does finally tell her she's beautiful, he's still thinking to himself that she isn't. I felt so bad for her, it made me cry. She's married to a man who only thinks she's beautiful inside.
It's more fun when the hero finds the heroine beautiful, even if she nor anyone else, thinks so.
The story was pretty good but a very slow start and too slow buildup to the romance. Over half the book before romance really starts to happen. I'm sure it's going to be great fun reading the rest of the series. This book just made me feel sad and sorry for the heroine.
