I was impressed by the first book of the series, "What's a Ghoul to Do?", but this second volume was a little bit disappointing. Medium and professional ghostbuster MJ is asked by her friend Karen to investigate Hatchet Jack, the ghost who has terrorized her niece at her posh Lake Placid boarding school. The ghost or demon proves to be a very strong one that can actually inflict physical damage, and MJ has her work cut out for her. The story was fine, the mystery a good one, and the resolution at the end satisfying, but I found the dialogue a little forced and too preachy, the conversion of the skeptic detective to staunch ally a little too conveniently quick for my taste, and the attempt to keep some sexual tension flowing between MJ & Steve by delaying the inevitable for at least one more book a little too formula. However, if you ignore the little flaws, which is easy enough to do, the story flows well, with enough twists to keep the reader guessing until the end.
