Having read a lot of science fiction, the concept of immortals living among us is a lot less amazing to me than it seems to be for some. But this isn't a science fiction novel, it's more about being human. Making mistakes over and over again, not wanting to love because it means eventually being hurt, wanting safety but also freedom, searching for meaning in life. I wasn't blown away by any of the thoughts, dialogue, or action in this book but it's a nice uplifting read anyway. The bad guy is not totally bad, the good guy(s) are actually pretty passive, and I wanted to know a lot more about some of the minor characters. As I write this in 2018, there's a movie in development starring Benedict Cumberbatch. If it does get made, I'll go see it, I think it would make a good film.
