I didn't know until I finished the book that this is the first of a trilogy. Even so, it was a great book on its own. Some have reviewed this book as a fantasy or adult fairy tale, but for me, it was more medieval historical. Though the time and place are not given, it fit the Middle Ages time-frame. Great characters, lots of action (some of it violent and abusive, but necessary for the story), wonderful theme of redemption and forgiveness, and just a touch of romance. It was definitely different from what I usually read, but I'm so glad I did. If you're looking for something a little different in your Christian fiction reading, then this may be for you.
