The book starts out with Doc Osbourne quite literally stumbling through Loon Lake in the dark, trying to remember how to cast his fly fishing rod, and trying to keep the water out of his waders. He went with Lew Ferris, who he didn't realize was female at first- although he loses her ahead of him in the rainy weather. He then stumbles over what he thinks is a log- but it's actually a body. Not a fun fishing trip! Police chief Lew ends up deputizing Doc due to his forensic dentistry experience, and together they set about trying to solve the mystery of how the victim died. There are many quirky characters in this little Wisconsin town, and it was a fun read. The fishing parts reminded me of my dad. Doc even had a bit of a crush on Lew. Overall, I liked it.
