Tamara, the central character in Playing God, is a Christian counselor who faces the question many Christians think but dare not to ask out loudâdoes serving God really pay off. She has a home, successful business, material possessions, everything except a mate. While attempting to do things the Biblical way, she sees others who seem to be getting everything she wants without playing by the rules. After growing weary in doing well, she decides to take a walk on the other side only to learn that God's way really is best. Other characters in the story deal with their own episodes of trying to be lord of their own lives. The book deals with some issues that are not often talked about in church-infidelity, sexual misconduct by leaders, and homosexuality. Either personally or through others you know, you'll definitely be able to identify with at least one of the characters. This is the first of Ms Hammond's fiction books that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend it to others.
