I finished this book yesterday, and it was not at all what I expected. It's put together much like short stories that eventually all get tied together at the end. It's also a story of just how far reaching the effects of the Holocaust run. The writing is very well done, and I my overall opinion of the book, now that I'm finished, is that I liked it, but because of the structure, it is hard to really care about any one of the characters - the author keeps you at a distance from them. And sometimes I had difficulty remembering one's back story when they he or she would randomly pop up again in another character's story. the one thing that kept running through my head at the conclusion what this quote: An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet,
regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break. (~ An Ancient Chinese Belief)
