Sandy, her husband Ben, and their teenage daughter Ivy are held hostage in a home invasion attack by two escaped prisoners.

If that's not a scary enough scenario, they are in an isolated house with no neighbors. And there is a strange connection between Sandy and one of the escapees, Nick.

It seemed like slow start to the story line, however, once things began moving, they moved with a lightning fast speed.

Sandy has a secret that her family doesn't know, but it's about to be revealed. Nick is a psychopath and the author ensures that we know how he got to be the way he is.

While the characters were well-drawn, it's the aging dog, Mac, who stole my heart.

As a psychological thriller, the book hits the mark.
