Very well written and well thought out depiction of a hero blinded in the war, who has every material advantage but still faces the psychological issues of adjusting to his new situation. One thing he does have is real friends who try to help him without making things worse, among whom is a girl he knew back in the day who fell a little in love with him but was not of his rank and whom he has pretty much forgotten.
I call this book a true and total classic. It was followed by two others in which Simon, the Duke of Sutton (this book's hero) also appears - Lady Barbara's Dilemma (she is a supporting character in this one) and Autumn Rose.
